Marshal – Diego: I’m not covering of the Crown martial activities in detail as I haven’t received a report yet from the event martial. Besides crown last month there is little else to report. We have had a few new and returning fencers showing up, this is great and hopefully keeps up. A reminder to those that haven’t completed equipment checks in the last two years to check their gear. Even if all you are doing is training it’s important to ensure your equipment is safe. And yes if you can’t recall how long it’s been check it. If unsure on how to check your equipment ask, there are plenty around that will assist with this.   Also my two years is almost up, so start thinking if anyone is interested in this role. It’s fairly simple, the separate fighting disciplines mostly look after themselves. Angele will be the new Lochac new Earl Marshal position – congratulations Angele. Scribal Warden – Jarnulfr: Nothing to report. Will be running a calligraphy course at Marienna’s Craft Expo. Herald – Bernard: Nothing to report. Will be Heralding courts at Coronation. Please file submission. Link to be sent to Darton, FB and list. Request from the Crown: The following request was read to the group and discussion occurred (at end of this text): As you know, We have sought the input of the Kingdom in relation to the question, should we shift the dates for Crown events to better suit the Australian climate. Although the responses to the survey released earlier this year were useful, they were not plentiful enough for Us to make an informed decision. Only 144 people chose to give their opinions. We seek your assistance to further consult with the populace of the Kingdom.  We ask you, as the leaders of your groups to organize a town hall meeting, to be held within one month from the publication of this letter. At this meeting, we ask that you conduct an open discussion on the proposed Crown Event changes and take a vote with the participants on those in favour of shifting the Crown event calendar, those opposed and those who are indifferent. We ask that you minute this meeting and send us the minutes, with particular attention to the vote.  This discussion and vote may be held in conjunction with your normal council meetings or electronically if that is how your group conducts its regular council meetings.   Should the Kingdom be in favour of the Crown Event shift, We are proposing beginning to implement the shift from Twelfth Night Coronation 2021. “Greetings to Lochac How are you finding the weather? Whew: summer, right? As some of you know, Duchess Branwen is currently holding the post of Deputy Seneschal for Kingdom Events, which is one that Kinggiyadai has also filled in the past. The hardest part of that position is finding volunteer host groups and stewarding teams, especially for Spring Crown Tournament and Twelfth Night Coronation. Many groups around the Kingdom consider their climate unsuitable for a big Tournament in late Spring, and for a Coronation event in the hottest part of the year. Duchess Branwen has devised a solution: Move all Kingdom events to two months earlier like so; * Autumn Crown Tournament moves from May to March. * Midwinter moves from July to May. * Spring Crown Tournament moves from November to September. * 12th Night moves from January to November. (Obviously the event names will need to update) We are minded to make this change to our laws, and are now seeking feedback from any member of Lochac's populace who has an opinion, either for or against, this plan” Discussion on this proposal: In essence the new fighting dates will be in March and September (rather than in May and November) and the coronations will be in May and November (rather than July and January). The venues could be difficult to organise in January. Weather will be a bit more clement for fighting. Vote taken: Don’t care – 13 (including 1 proxy); Agree (move the dates) – 3 Disagree (keep the same dates) – Nil. Addendum: 15 June 2019 – Hamlet Arts & Sciences (present: Marienna, Lucie de Valle; Philip of Southwark, Helewys & Peter (not voted)) – discussion on this proposal. In New Zealand the weather in September more likely to be less reliable than November, and therefore, less likely for us to have a Spring event (not that we do much anyway). Indoor/outdoor venue would need to be considered. Happy to deal with having venue issues, versus dealing with health issues due to heat or cold. New dates will be away from school holidays which will affect the costs to get to events (would be cheaper). Support the move – all 3.
