DARTON Council Meeting 8 July 2020 @ Elmwood Start Time: 7.35 pm End Time: 7.45 pm Members attending: Helewys; Peter; Kjartan; Ozbeg; Katherine; Aliena; Iarnulfr; William; Ali; Gordianus Apologies: Johanna; Robyn; Luan Minutes from last meeting tabled by Kjartan Seconded by William Comments – Nil, Accepted. Officer Reports: Seneschal –Helewys Another month done, and we are now past the half-way mark for the year! Which means that my term as Seneschal is due to expire at the end of December / beginning of January. Please consider if you would like to take on this position and watch our Shire grow and develop under your leadership. I will be formally calling for expressions of Interest in August or September, to allow for the notification periods and any feedback to be made. I did not receive a response from the Karori 1st Scouts group about the possibility of hiring their hall in Campbell Street – as this was the most promising hall for size compared to others in the area (including the Paparangi hall – which had good land but poor foot-print size), as such I made the decision on the 1st of July to cancel DA 2020 in the proposed format. This now allows for anyone else to submit an event proposal for an event to be held later in the year – ideally somewhere suitable for us to hold our 3 tournaments (Heavy, fencing/rapier and archery). Please have a think about this and come up with some suggestions / proposals – it does not have to be a full week-end event, nor a camping event and put in your bid(s) for us to discuss at the August Council meeting. Sherwater held their June Hamlet Day on Saturday 27 June. 2 new members – Sophie and Arthur along with their daughter Saffron came along. It was a pleasure to meet them all. Comment – It was suggested that we could have separate events to determine the various champions, rather than a single full-on event. Reeve – Johanna Opening Balance: $7,368.88 Incomings: Nil Outgoings: Nil Closing Balance: $7,368.88 Stabbython has just happened, however, no monies have gone through the account yet. Marshal – Gordianus: We did Stabbython – no one hurt. The increased loaner garb helped, and Kjartan made some new gorgets. W have 3 full sets of garb with protective equipment. Marshall is to do some research for protective equipment specifically for female participants, and to report back. Scribal Warden – Iarnulfr: Nothing to report. Herald – Bernard: No report. Events: Stabbython 2 happened on Saturday 4 July 2020. A total of 17 adults and 1 minor registered, with 3 of us not participating in the sessions, but helping in our own way! Due to the event being reduced to 1 day, and the Steward dropping the prices, which resulted in non-member’s being charged $17 (including the SCANZ levy) most of them generously donated the $3 change from the $20 cash payment to the event – the event has ended up with a small profit of $20.00 Upcoming Events: The following events are still on the board: 12 September - Day of Fun (working with hot stuff - making Portable Banner holders), coat hooks for use in the barn; Sometime in October - A Flight Shoot (still to be confirmed); 14 November - Day of Fun and War Practice; and finally 12 December - Sherwater Summer Feast – it is looking like this event may be held on 19 December. It looks like we do not have anything planned for August – any suggestions? General Business: No new General Business. Meeting closed.
