It was a self-catered camping event, with portaloos rented to provide facilities. 26 people attended, including children, and a number of daytrippers or drop-in visitors. Financially we made a small profit. Aside from the portaloos, we also bought a number of straw bales to use as a backdrop to the archery range. We are covering these to reuse for our monthly hamlet days, so we will get longer term use out of them. In practical terms the event worked well, people arrived and set up mostly on the Friday, although some set up was done in advance. The weather held mostly dry, although we had strong winds on the Saturday and Monday saw rising winds, although most people were off site before the worst of it hit. Self-catering worked well, if anything we had too much equipment which is an excellent problem to have! Aside from cooking there was a lot of socialising, some archery, and on Sunday a sauna provided by Zane. Rubbish and recycling worked well. People were considerate about rinsing out the recycling before binning it. In future we'd like to have the ability to presort somewhat, into plastics, glass and paper perhaps. Any food scraps went in bucket which the local pigs were happy to clear for us. We consider the event successful and are planning to run it again next year. Madeleine would like a collegium to happen this year. Queens birthday 4th June? September? July? Get me your bids! Darton Anniversary, Anno Societatis LII 24-26 August, at Brookfields, Wainuiomata $80 pp. Children 12 and under $60, children under 5 $30 (to cover accommodation).
