Unfortunately same weekend as the local event. Darton Easter Camp 29 March - 2 April, 2018 The event will be held in one of the paddocks at the Forest property in Carterton. The paddock has a clean water tap, there will be power available and there will be a portaloo available. We can also provide a shower head if people want a cold shower. The region is moist but still under fire restrictions. I will apply for a fire permit so we can do open fire cooking. I have one portaloo on order for the weekend. Depending on numbers, we may need one more. Our house will be off limit due to our sewage system being broken. May Crown bid - Madeleine May Crown 2019 10-12 May, 2019 Brookfields Outdoor Education Center, Wanuiomata, Wellington, NEW ZEALAND Be it known that the Shire of Darton, the innermost group in the Crescent Isles of Lochac, will host a May Crown tournament in the year of the Society two score and fourteen. Famed throughout Lochac for its hospitality, the Shire will host a display of chivalric and honourable combat, that gentles from across the Kingdom may display their prowess before Their Majesties, that they may choose their heirs. The event will focus on the 13th Century Franco-Mongol alliance. There will be a grand feast cooked on an open fire, and the Bear House tavern will re-open it's doors for the event. The Kingdom boasts fine artisans, courteous gentles, and gallant/valliant/honourable combatants. There will be displays of skill and prowess in Rapier combat and target archery. There will also be an Arts and Sciences display, with the opportunity for entry into the Kingdom Arts and Sciences competition. Costs: For clarification: the "child" cost is charged to any individual aged 3-18 at the time of the event. Anyone under 3 is free. All prices are in New Zealand dollars. Adult, full event: $110 Child, full event: $65 (under 3 years old free) Day trip (including lunch): $30 Day trip (including lunch and feast): $55 Late fees will start 2 months prior to the event. More than 2 months out: no penalty 2 months-1 month out: $10 1 month-2 weeks out: $25 2 weeks-1 week out: $35 penalty No bookings will be accepted less than a week before the start of the event. I had originally thought of a $98 per adult event fee, but I looked at the charges for the last four May Crown events and they ranged between $110 and $125 so I upped the price. The site token budget is proportionally high. This is because at the time of originally throwing these numbers together, I had no idea of what kind of site token I wanted to give out. I've thought about it a bunch, and I like tokens I can use, so I think an awesome event token would be a napkin stamped with a Lochac populace badge. Depending on the cost I can get the linen at, this will be closer to a $5.50 token or a $9 token. If closer to $9, it's a cool thing and within budget, if closer to $5 more profit! Getting to site: Brookfields is roughly 45 minutes from Wellington airport. Shuttles will be available for booking - $30 per person, per direction. Car hire is more expensive in New Zealand than it is in Australia, so shuttles may well be a preferred option. Accommodation: (bedding $5-15?) Accommodation is in cinder block bunkrooms on site. Each bunkroom has its own timed heater, and we can provide bedding for a small fee. There is enough hard accommodation for 125 if we stuff every bunk full. There are a couple of small lodges with enough accommodation for 10-12 people and some social area that would be ideal for a Royal household/planning/staging/secret meetings. Crew: I have a few vacant spots as I talk to a few people and figure out how much time they can and will have to commit to the event. Head steward: Madeleine de Eyncourt Deputy steward: Master Bernard Sterling Head cook wrangler: TBA Feast cook: Master Stefano da Urbino Marshal in charge: THL Angele Marie de Savigny Herald/List co-ordinator: THL Luan an Fael Shuttle co-ordinator: TBA Bookings and bunkrooms: Hospitality: This event would not be possible without the Darton's ability to cook up a mad idea and run with it. The inspiration came from THL Kazamera suggesting that re-creating a scene from Eighteen Songs of a Nomad Flute would be bad ass, Master Járnulfr's vast knowledge throwing up the idea of the Franco-Mongol alliance, and Master Stefano running with the idea and having a great Arabian feast he prepared earlier. All of the gentles in Darton, and a few individuals from further reaches of the Crescent Isles, have been wonderfully generous with their guidance and offers of assistance. I am eternally grateful for the support of my tribe. People liked the sound of the bid and no-one objected to running with it, so I'll submit it and see how it goes. *General Business Sunshade frame, Madeleine would like $520 for a new frame to keep in Darton. As the marquee is a future plan. Madeleine moves, no objections. Poles to be stored at the Forrest house until we find a more permanent home for them. Gildenwick wants to become Shire. They have asked if we will consider sponsoring them to Shire. Please think about whether you would be happy to do this. Meeting closed 8.13
